How to use it
- Source frequency f₀ = 500 Hz, v_sound = 343 m/s
- Source velocity vₛ = 25 m/s (toward observer, positive)
- Observer velocity vₒ = 10 m/s (toward source, positive)
- Apply formula: 500 × (343 + 10) ÷ (343 - 25) = 500 × 353 ÷ 318
Common mistakes
- ⚠️ Using wrong sign convention for velocities
- ⚠️ Confusing source and observer velocity positions in formula
- ⚠️ Not accounting for direction of motion (toward vs away)
Worked example
Calculate observed frequency when source moves at 25 m/s toward observer moving at 10 m/s.
The observed frequency {f_obs} Hz changes due to relative motion between source and observer.
Input guide
| Field | Typical range |
