What is the Countertop Calculator?
Countertop materials are priced per square metre and cut to size — getting the measurement wrong means either a costly gap or an expensive re-cut. This calculator computes the surface area of your countertops, optional backsplash, and subtracts cutouts for sinks and cooktops so you get an accurate quote-ready area in square metres.

The calculator uses the following formula:
Surface area = Counter length × depth; Backsplash = length × backsplash_height; Cost = area × price/m²
Worked Example
A kitchen with 4.5 m of counter at 60 cm depth, a 0.6 m backsplash height, and one 0.4 × 0.8 m sink cutout has a total surface area of 3.38 m² of countertop plus 2.7 m² of backsplash.
Step-by-Step Calculation
- Counter surface: 3.5 m × 0.6 m = 2.1 m²
- Backsplash area: 3.5 m × 0.45 m = 1.575 m²
- Subtract cutout allowance: 1 sink cutout ≈ 0.2 m²
- Total slab needed: 2.1 + 1.575 - 0.2 = 3.475 m²
