- mallas (mallas_ud) – The total number of whole mosaic sheets required. It is Math.ceil(area_merma / malla_m2), which always rounds up to the next integer. It is always better to have a few extra than to fall short.
- adhesivo (adhesivo_kg) – The amount of tile adhesive in kilograms. It is area_merma × 5, rounded to one decimal. The factor 5 kg/m² is a typical coverage for notched trowels used with mosaics.
- lechada (lechada_kg) – The amount of grout in kilograms. It is area_merma × 0.6, rounded to one decimal. The factor 0.6 kg/m² works well for standard 2 mm grout joints.

Result: For a 4.2 m² floor using larger 40 cm sheets, you need 29 sheets, 23.1 kg of adhesive, and 2.8 kg of grout. Note that using bigger sheets reduces the number of pieces but does not change the adhesive and grout estimates per square metre.
Common Mistakes When Using the Mosaic Calculator
Even a simple tool can lead to errors if key details are overlooked. Here are the most frequent pitfalls and how to avoid them.
- Mixing up units: The calculator expects area in square metres and sheet size in centimetres. If you enter area in square feet or sheet size in inches, the results will be wrong. Convert everything to metric first. For quick reference: 1 m² ≈ 10.764 ft², and 1 cm ≈ 0.394 inches. A 30 cm sheet is roughly 12 inches.
- Ignoring the waste factor: Some users reduce the 10% waste because they think they are careful. This is risky. Mosaics break easily during cutting, especially glass and stone. The 10% accounts for these losses, as well as odd-shaped areas where you need partial sheets. Never lower the waste buffer.

What if my mosaic tiles are not on 30 cm sheets, or if I am using individual loose tiles?
If your tiles come on sheets of a different size (e.g., 25 cm or 40 cm), simply change the "tam_malla_cm" input to match. For loose tiles not pre-mounted on mesh, you can still use the calculator by treating one sheet as a group of tiles that cover the sheet area.
