What are Drywall Partitions?

Drywall (plasterboard) partitions consist of a metal frame with plasterboard sheets on both sides, with optional insulation and acoustic treatment. Common in interior remodeling where speed and clean finish matter.

Calculation Method

Area = Length × Height

Boards = (Area × 2 sides) / Board area × 1.1 (waste)

Worked Example

Partition 10m × 2.6m, double-layer boards:

  1. Area = 26 m²
  2. Boards = 26 × 2 / 2.88 × 1.1 = 20 boards
  3. Studs = (10 / 0.60 + 1) × 2 = 34 studs
  4. Screws = 26 × 20 per m² = 520 screws

Common Mistakes

  • Not using double board where acoustic insulation is required
  • Stud spacing exceeding 600mm
  • Not installing mineral wool in party walls

Frequently Asked Questions

Standard 12.5mm for walls, 15mm for ceilings. Use 15mm fire-rated board for garage walls and party walls per building codes.

For party walls between units: yes. For internal room divisions: optional. Mineral wool improves both acoustic and thermal performance.
