The calculation is based on the simple formula:

Age in days = Reference Date - Birth Date

The difference is computed in milliseconds using JavaScript's Date object, which accurately accounts for leap years and the varying number of days in months. The result is then divided by the number of milliseconds in a day (86,400,000) to obtain the total days.

Example 1: If you were born on March 1, 2000, and today is March 1, 2023, the calculator will show approximately 8,406 days. This is because there are 23 years, and 8,406 days account for 23 years minus a few leap days.

Example 2: If you were born on June 15, 1990, and want to know your age in days on July 20, 1990, the calculator will give you 35 days, as there are 30 days in June and 5 days into July, but including the start date? Actually the calculator counts full days between dates. For precise detail, the age on July 20 would be from June 15 to July 20 is 35 days.

Tips and Best Practices

For the most accurate result, know the exact time of birth if you need precise to the hour, but for general purposes this is not needed. Always double-check your birth date entry to avoid errors. If you are calculating for historical purposes, ensure the dates are set to the correct time zone. Remember that the calculator includes both the start and end dates in its count, so the number of days will be inclusive of the birth day if you count that day as zero?
